The Cycling World show was held in Düsseldorf, Germany this weekend and several recumbent brands were exhibiting. At the HASE stand on the test track, we discovered a new product that HASE BIKES hasn’t actually introduced yet. The Bosch Performance CX engine on the Kettwiesel ONE. We don’t have any official information at the moment, but it seems that the Kettwiesel with this motor can already be pre-ordered, that the battery offered with it will be 800 Wh, the display is going to be Purion 200, and that the Kettwiesel can still be ordered with existing Shimano motors. According to preliminary information, this motor will only be available for order with the Kettwiesel ONE model for the time being, and they will see if and when they will order it for other of their models.
The Performance CX is the German motor manufacturer’s top model, providing 85Nm of torque, 250W of rated power and up to 600W of maximum power. For the US market it is a Class 1 category engine, for Europe it is the so-called Pedelec. So no throttle and a 20 mph and 25 km/h limit respectively.
HASE is thus another of the recumbent manufacturers that have started offering Bosch motors. Among the first were US brands Terra Trike and Catrike, which offer Bosch Active Line Plus and Performance Line motors, and last year AZUB introduced the Bosch Performance CX.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for the official press release from HASE to let us know what the pricing will be and how all drivetrain and accessory combinations they’ll be offering with the new engine.
Bosch does have a lot of interesting products on offer for the Performance CX including Dual Battery system, large smart displays, ABS (Anti Block System) brake solutions, GPS tracking, possibility of combining and integrating it with electronic Rohloff or automatic step-less Enviolo Automatiq gear hub. All that we are yet to find out.
