The appearance of the vast majority of bikes is directly or indirectly determined by UCI (International Cycling Federation) rules. However, there are also many types of bikes whose design is not influenced by the UCI. These are, for example, recumbents, velomobiles, cargo or folding bikes. The beauty of these bikes is that their designers could really play around with their shape and adapt it to the very specific needs of their customers.

And so it is with Alex Neumayer’s velomobile. Unlike most velomobiles that have a two wheels in the front and one in the back layout, the so-called tadpole velomobiles, Alex’s machine is a delta. Therefore, it has two wheels at the back.

Deltas are considered to be somewhat unstable at higher speeds, especially if you have a higher seating position, but on the other hand they offer a lot of advantages, such as a very small turning circle or a large storage space in the back. Alex has obviously managed to combine all the advantages and disadvantages together and create a very cool velomobile.

You have a three-star hotel, bike and sauna all in one.

– I have built the velomobile by myself.
– It has a turning circle of approx. 4 meters.
– Very easy access by opening the entire front cover.
– The transmission is with Pinion gear box and an additional 11/32 cassette. Which is of course very comfortable, especially in city traffic and when traveling.
– A gear ratio of 3 to 49 km/h (1.8 to 30.5 mph) when pedaling 60 rpm (revolution per minute), what means 98 km/h (61 mph) when 120 rpm. No hill is too steep at 3 km/h.
– Trunk capacity is huge. I can store 2 full crates of beer easily together with other groceries.
– It is absolutely easy to maintain, because everything is easily accessible.
– It has full suspension and 3 brakes.
– You can ride tires up to 50 mm wide.
– These advantages make it absolutely suitable for everyday use. as well as for traveling.
– You can also see the reclining seat in the pictures. You can sleep in it, in the foot area there is a camping footrest is inserted in the foot area and a shelf in the head area. The head section in the Velo can be removed for this purpose. So you have a three-star hotel, bike and sauna all in one. I’ve had the sleeping area patented, though.
