Trail Name: South Lake Trail
Length: 13 miles one way
Best time to visit: February, March, November
How to get there: Google Maps to Killarney Station Trailhead 17914 FL-438, Winter Garden, FL 34787
Recumbent issues: Few light grades, road crossings, no real issues of concern.
Surface: Paved.
Description of trail: This is an out and back paved trail centered near Clermont, FL, which is particularly scenic, with views along Lake Minneola and other lakes and sweeping vistas on the sand ridges. The trail connects with the West Orange Trail at Killarney Station to create 36 miles of continuous Central Florida biking through Lake and Orange Counties.
Why recumbent riders should try: It’s perfect to lie back, ride and enjoy the scenery all at your own pace.
Tips for accommodations: There are restroom facilities at Killarney Station and again around Lake Minneola. This is a tourist area so restaurants and hotels are everywhere, just not on the trail itself. If you continue onto the West Orange Trail into Winter Garden, there is the Plant Street Market situated alongside the trail which is a great place to eat.
Trail markers: Not great signage. Had to refer to Google Maps a few times. N. Hancock Rd and Old Hwy 50 W intersection especially.
